This exhibition is the first attempt at inventorying and showing the post-war Modernist architecture in the 14 former Soviet republics in a wider context. The curators deliberately omitted Russia, focusing on the unique character of specific regions. The display is important not only as a presentation of an architectural tendency little known in Europe, but also because many buildings from this period are becoming dilapidated, and since they are perceived as relics of the unwanted Soviet rule, local governments deny them conservation and protection.
