After Jan Švankmajer, the Czech film-maker whose exhibition we reported on in the last issue of Herito, it is time to discover the achievements of an eminent representative of Polish animation. Julian Józef Antoniszczak (Antonisz) was a co-founder of the Animated Films Studio in Krakow, director of experimental animations, constructor, musician and inventor. He developed his own non-camera technique. As the name suggests, he made films not using a camera but devices he constructed himself. This exhibition presents not only the cinematic oeuvre of Antonisz but also the secrets of his technique and the peculiar laboratory where – as he used to say himself – technology became a branch of art.
