During this year’s European Heritage Congress in Lisbon, Piroska Kovács was awarded for her work on heritage protection – her long‑term efforts in researching, documenting and preserving the traditional, richly decorated Szekler gates were appreciated. Thanks to her commitment, many such sculpted gates in the Transylvanian village of Satu Mare (Máréfalva in Hungarian) and its vicinity were saved.
Another winner in the “Conservation” category was the renovation of Golia Monastery in Iași – one of the most interesting and best‑preserved monastery compounds in Europe, which uniquely combines oriental influences with Lviv mannerism.
