The comparison to Manchester in the title adequately conveys the significance of Brno as a former centre of light industry. The role the city played, especially during the time of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, made a mark on the landscape of Brno and its vicinity. Apparent proof of prosperity were the textile factories (not many people know that in the 19th century Brno produced army uniforms for many countries in and outside of Europe). The exhibition presents the history and products of such factories (nationalised after the Second World War), whose founders were predominantly German or Jewish entrepreneurs.
